Summer Solstice Shindig 2022 with the Upper Cumberland All-Stars

The Burlappers turned out in force on Saturday afternoon, June 11, 2022,  for a replay of an event that sorta started the entire Burlap Room Concert Series concept four years ago.  The Upper Cumberland All-Stars, a consortium of the best players from the best bands in the region, performed the first Burlap Room Tom Petty Tribute in 2018, and returned again for a two complete sets of Tom Petty songs, and succeeded in presenting spot-on performances of all the big hits, and some very tasteful renditions of some less-familiar but strong, Tom Petty songs.

From my musical experience, I can tell you that performing live copies of songs that people love and have spent years listening to the recordings can be difficult – all it takes is a few clunkers to turn off “true” fans when you start messing with “their” music. From the enthusiastic response the UC All-Stars received, it’s obvious that – A: There were many hard-core Tom Petty fans in the crowd, and B: They all approved of the UCAS’s performance of the songs they love by Tom Petty! Thanks to these talented musician/entertainers of the UC All-Stars for a wonderful evening:

  • Don Sergio (drums and vocals)

  • Lorie Judd (Bass and vocals)

  • Stevie Judd (lead guitar)

  • Viola Sergio (Drums, bass, keys and vocals)

  • Cindy Hall (percussion and vocals)

  • Gary Alspaugh (keyboards and vocals)

  • Philip Hall (Lead vocals and guitar)

Kudos to the entire technical and service staff of the Burlap Room for a job well done - I think ol’ Tom P. would have been pleased with our humble attempt to honor him and his music!  And congrats to the three lucky individuals won free “Baby Japanese Maple” Trees during our traditional random drawing- this has become a much-anticipated feature at all Burlap Room concert events!
